Bedtime Stories (床邊故事) is the title song for Jay Chou’s most recent album Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories (周杰倫的床邊故事), which is to be released on June 24, 2016. After Jay’s marriage and his baby girl in 2015, he returned to the music world gorgeously with his 14th album.

This title song, Bedtime Stories, reunions Jay’s hip-hop genre and Vincent Fang’s (方文山) innocence lyrics, and narrates a scary but interesting bedtime story that put children into adventurous dream journey. The bedtime story started with an owl looking into the forest during the night, and opened up the magical world in the castle. The lyrics used figures that often associated with fairy tales, such as witches, apples, and butterflies, to create the scene that full of innocence and phantasy.

In the music video, Jay transfigured into different characters to interpret the mysterious wonderland in children’s dreams. The video blended in the storyline of a local nursery rhyme, Hu Gu Po (虎姑婆), and built a horrified, irritating, and creepy environment. While the audience enjoyed Jay’s beautiful rhythms, perfect soundtrack, and creative musical talent, they can also sense Jay has enjoyed his parenthood and deeply loves his daughter and family. The use of the local nursery rhyme also awakes the resonate of grown-ups’ sweet memories of childhood. Jay might have moved on to a new stage of life to build a lovely family, but his greatest talent in music has yet been as great.
